I’ll read you this
If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. He will put some things behind, will pass an invisible boundary; new, universal, and more liberal laws will begin to establish themselves around and within him. (Henry David Thoreau, Walden)
It hit me like a ton of bricks
Let me break this down
Don’t settle for this
You can do things
That you don’t even know
Unplug and reset
You may not believe
Scrolling through your phone
Checking your email 200 times a day
Avoiding silence
Is the path to success
Yet if that is what you’re doing
Your intellect sure thinks so
It’s actually easier this way
It’s why our subconscious latches on to it
It’s less work for our mind
We know through research of habits
Our brain prefers mindless pattern
It’s saving energy
Waiting for those big decisions
The ones, it really wants
If you advance confidently
In the direction of your dreams
This is where your conscious comes in
If one endeavors to live the life which they have imagined
That mindful awareness
You hear so much about
But again, rarely take the time to understand
That’s where your path to success lies
Once you start changing your habits
Over time,
Many of the greats have said
Time is your truest form of wealth
We’re all born equally rich in time
The entire biosphere is here supporting you
You will meet with a success unexpected
In your common hours
Trust that there’s more to life than this
Regrets are inherently lack of action
So, Let go
Put some things behind
It all comes down to this one question…
Why are you here?
You may not know, I don’t know for you
I barely know for myself
Maybe the question is how?
When you start to answer the question of how
You atomically build your answer,
Your answer
Unplug and reset
Don’t settle for this
Let me read you this
When you free yourself from busy body
Your own nature will begin to take care of itself
And then all the sudden, you pass an invisible boundary;
New, universal, and more liberal laws
They begin to establish themselves
Around and
Within you
Unplug and reset
Don’t settle for this
Take that risk

Henry David Thoreau quote taken from Rolf Pott’s Vagabonding. In between long novels, I pick up Vagabonding as a reminder. It’s the very first book I read while vagabonding myself for 6 months back in 2011. Feature photo by Michael A. Nyffeler at a special spot in Puerto Rico. Incredible research on habits can be found in Charles Duhigg’s The Power of Habit
